Operational Briefs
Middle East
- Most countries require local sponsor in order to allow aircraft to operate into/out of their territory. Ensure that you provide complete Sponsor Details to your service provider. These details include Name of Sponsor, Address and Telephone number (Land line preferred sometimes).
- During Ramadan permits can take a lot longer to obtain due to CAA closures. Please plan well in advance during these times. Ramadan 2009 is Aug 21-Sept 19.
- Alcohol is strictly prohibited in a lot of Middle Eastern countries. If possible remove alcohol from the aircraft, if not make sure you have a way to lock it up before landing. Fines of $500 per bottle are not uncommon.
- Female crew members should be aware of Middle Eastern customs. In some countries they may not be allowed to travel in the front seat of a car. If doing a crew change they may be required to be met by a Male at the airport. Do not wear clothing that exposes too much skin, including arms.
- Passports with Israel stamps in them could cause a problem. If you have a passport with an Israel stamp in it you might want to get a new one before traveling into the Middle East. Along with this, traveling from the Middle East into Israel is strictly prohibited, without a tech stop.
- When flying into Israel please note that there are certain airports you can depart from. Contact service provider for most current list of "Portal" airports.
